What is a standard FIBC bulk bag?

  • What is a standard FIBC bulk bag?

When communicating with our current and potential customers for Bulk Bags, we encounter many questions and one of the most common is what is "standard FIBC". For the bulk bag industry, apart from FIBCA, there is no central bag authority to define standards. However, this does not mean that there are no commonly used construction types and use cases. What is a standard FIBC? Is there a clear standard in the industry?

"Technical Issues"

Industry standards are usually not well defined, and when it comes to the industry, this is certainly the case. This means that asking what is a standard package is a tricky question. Instead of trying to define a standard package, it is better to study some of the more commonly used types. These are the bags you can find at premium distributors, can be shipped in large quantities immediately, and can be used in a variety of industry applications and uses.

Common FIBC building types

  • Common top and bottom structures

The most common top and bottom structures we see are the top of the trunk (for easy filling) and the bottom of the nozzle (for controlled discharge). This is a great combination because it can be used with most operations and equipment and allows easy and controlled removal of the product from the bag.

It should also be noted that the top filling spout and the bottom discharge spout are common features, which are very useful when using filling equipment

  • Common building types

The structure type refers to the creation and stitching of various polypropylene woven panels. For more information on bag construction, check out the post on this topic. On a typical bag, the two most common construction types we see are round and U-shaped panel constructions. For baffled bags, the most common are 4 panels (for more information on baffled bags, please check this post).

  • Ordinary bag sizes

Although there are many sizes of bulk bags, only 3 to 4 can be seen at most. Usually, the most common sizes are 35x35x35'', 35x35x40'', 35x35x50'', and sometimes 37x37x63''. This is mainly because products of these sizes can be easily adapted to various operations and facilities, regardless of the product and application. These sizes are easy to install on the pallet, so it is easier to use a forklift to move, which is an extremely common equipment choice for moving pallets.
